Buddyhead = Pitchfork for the anti-hipster hipster.

WHAT UP THE FUCK FOR BUDDYHEAD?! Bear here, it’s been a minute and for that I apologize. Cleaning up after Gerard can be a full time job and getting him to type anything coherent can be…a task. Anyway, I ran across this today on Idolator.

Buddyhead hates Pitchfork. Big surprise, right? Well, it’s a funny surprise when you think about it. Not because we know Buddyhead is gonna hate anything that isn’t “totally rock n roll!” or some bullshit like that and not because we know Travis Keller and his little gang of misfits isn’t going to just hate anything that comes along just to piss you off, but because Travis Keller is one of the top LA hipsters.

“What the fuck did you just say you little motherfucker?!?! How can that be?” You ask. “He fucking hates hipsters and is always making fun of those little pussies who think they are so “cool” also, he’s totally fucking wild and crazy and doesn’t give a fuck about anything. He doesn’t care. He DJs all over town and….” Wait, what were you saying? That sounds like every hipster I know.

In fact, I’d go as far as to say that Travis Keller, Mr. Buddyhead himself, is the Rock N Roll Steve Aoki.

Let’s look at the facts:

Steve Aoki
-Owns/runs a Dim Mak records
-DJs all over LA from small club nights to big events.
-Often talks about his celebrity friends like that guy from Good Charlotte.
-Has an annoying as fuck mailing list inviting you to all of his parties

Travis Keller
-Owns/runs a Dim Mak records Owns/runs Buddyhead Records 
-DJs all over LA from small bars to big events. Including a night at the Hotel Roosevelt, you remember that place, right, the place where Lindsay Lohan got caught in the bathroom doing blow. 
-Often talks about his celebrity friends like that guy from Eagles of Death Metal
-Can’t go for a day without sending out some kind of facebook invitation to one of his parties/DJ sets/etc.

See where this is going?

If that isn’t hipster-damning enough. He lists himself as the curator of musical nights at Bar Chloe and the Bar in Hollywood. First, do you know anyone who “curates music” at bars who isn’t a giant fucking hipster? I know some people who DJ at bars who aren’t giant douchebags, but they certainly don’t “curate.” Second, I’m not sure if you’ve been to these places, but they aren’t spots where the downtrodden kids go to hang out. These are hipsters. He’s one of them and if you don’t believe it you’re being taken by a hipster who knows how to market to the anti-hipster hipsters.

It’s easy.

Now all that isn’t to say that the Buddyhead kids don’t make some valid points, and that Pitchfork’s version of the 00’s really shouldn’t be the one that we accept as the defining version of what went down. Or even that reading Buddyhead can’t be amusing (when it isn’t tiiiired (c’mon at least Gerard stopped writing all the time, right?)) but c’mon. Let’s see the world for what it is. One hipster gang fighting with another one.

Pot. Kettle. Travis Keller. Hipster. Can we put this hipster hatred to bed yet?

Gerard make to have many new people who make follow Gerard. WHO IS PEOPLE FOLLOW GERARD?! Send Gerard message. Tell Gerard who is people?
