How does a pilot fly the aircraft while taxiing?
I know this seems like a simple question ….. but I never really knew how they do. Is there a small side wheels they use in the cockpit? do they fit with the rudder pedals? Thank you …….
Most Small planes use the rudder pedals to steer while on the ground. Lifters also incorporate the brakes on smaller planes, either the heel or more commonly toe brakes. The device can also be controlled using the so-called differential braking, keeping the brakes on a side will cause the aircraft to rotate about the axis of the machine (more or less). Some devices such as Liberty, the use of brakes hand mounted on the console. Larger planes in the past used what is called a bar that is basically a small wheel mounted beside the seat the captain who steers the nose wheel. Some get away from this now by using the rudder pedals.
