How the Teddy Bear "got its name

In 1902, the company famous Steiff of Germany invented the bear Plush big as the world learned to love and cherish. However, Do we know how Teddy got his name?

We all know that the teddy bear has by Richard Steiff invented and originally it was called Petsy (after Meister Petz, a term for the former Bruin). The name "Teddy" however, came from the United States Theodore Roosevelt (1858 – 1919), which was known as "Teddy" to his friends.

Roosevelt as a child suffered from asthma and, as a young man, probably because of his weakened childhood, has become a bit of a fitness fanatic. After studying at Harvard, he spent some time working on a ranch in Dakota. It quickly became a hunter rather dedictaed big game. Roosevelt's passion for hunting was very well known and, when he became president he had even written a number of books on the subject.

In November 1902, (curiously the same year, the teddy bear was invented by Steiff), Roosevelt traveled to South America to arbitrate a dispute between states Louisiana and Mississippi. Of course, if it exists, it is a bear hunting trip. After days of hunting, Roosevelt still did not kill and so the November 14, 1902, guests at his hunting searched for him for a bear to shoot, because they simply could not leave home without them trophy. Finally, they found an old bear, which they then attached to the president to shoot. However, Roosevelt refused to shoot the bear.

This impact has been reported by Clifford K. Berryman, who was a famous cartoonist for the Washington Post. He made a cartoon Roosevelt and the bear and called "Draw the Line in Mississippi. This cartoon Roosevelt represented with his hands, refusing to shoot the bear. Two days later this cartoon was printed in the Washington Post and he immediately attracted publicity. Clifford K. Berryman also drew a portrait of Roosevelt and a small bear, next to the sketch Berryman wrote, "Teddy Bear in November 1902, so it makes it more likely that Berryman proposed the first time with the term "Teddy Bear". However, nobody is really sure who actually came up with the name of Teddy Bear yet another version of this story is, Morris Michtom and his wife Rose, who had a novelty store in Brooklyn, New York and saw Berryman cartoon, the story goes, made of a bear lint they put in their window and next to the bear they have placed a card that read "Teddy Bear". It is said that almost immediately the bear sold and thus has many others that Rose had done.

It is very difficult to know whether the Michtoms' little bear looked at the door made by the Steiff company in Germany as all the bears seem to have lost Michtoms. However, it seems highly unlikely that the Bears were Michtoms of the same design as those Steiff or even that they were attached, and even less articulated as Steiff bears. Indeed, there is no evidence to support the Michtoms call their teddy bears. A Brooklyn-based company called Butler Brothers has bought the right to use Michtoms Bears, however, and this collaboration led to the start of the novelty and Ideal Toy Company – the first American teddy bear manufacturer.

What In any case, back to Roosevelt. The president was extremely fast to recognize the appeal of the teddy bear and thus it was used as a mascot for the rest of his political life. Ideal Novelty and Toy Co. actually produced teddy bears to hand out "during 1904 presidential elections. These bears were only 15 cm tall and had eyes enough "googly.

In 1906, the teddy bear became independent from Teddy Roosevelt during the term was used in the U.S. trade magazine Toy. It was also during This year the teddy bear craze really took off in the United States. In 1907, John Bratton wrote the famous "Teddy Bears Picnic" (The words were not added until 1930). This music is often played when Roosevelt entered public office.

From then, reports from across the United States reporting that stores simply could not cope with the huge demand for these stuffed animals called teddy bears.

And the rest as they say – is history!
