Brownies at the former Cherry
Okay, chocolate lovers out there; Listen Up! Do I have a recipe for you! This recipe is very our old family chocolate Hershey's. Chocolate and cherries everything seemed to go hand in hand and this recipe is more proof. When you serve these tasty squares friends, make sure you have a copy of the practice revenue. They are sure to ask. Or you can have secrets, if you want, and tell them that it CHOCOLATE CHERRY SQUARES
This recipe is a Former Hershey's Grocery Store "Give-Away" pamphlet.
1 cup all purpose flour
Third cup butter or margarine,
Half cup lightly packed brown sugar
1 / 2 cup chopped walnuts
Filling (recipe below)
Candied red cherries, halved
Preheat of the crumb mixture for topping. Pat remaining mixture into a pastry crumbs ungreased square of 9 inches. Bake 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Meanwhile, prepare the stuffing.
FILLING:
1 pkg (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
1 / 2 cup sugar
1 / 3 cup cocoa HERSHEY
1 / 4 cup milk
1 egg
1 / 4 c. to teaspoon vanilla extract
1 / 4 cup chopped candied red cherries
In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese and beat the sugar until fluffy. Add cocoa, milk, egg and vanilla and beat until smooth. Stir in cherries. Expand mixture over hot crust. Sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture. Garnish with cherry halves. Return to oven and bake for 25 minutes or until they are lightly browned. Cool before cutting into squares. Store, covered, in refrigerator.
