Mamma Mia

The film follows Sophie Sheridan’s quest to find her biological father after she discovers her mum’s diary and unearths the truth about her mother’s three past lovers. Attempting to fnd herself before her upcoming wedding Sophie, played by Amanda Seyfried, invites all three men to the Greek Island as she believes in her heart that she will instantly recognise her father from these men with very different backgrounds.

The film bursts into life as Sophie giggles with her two best friends as she confides in them with the truth about the diary and her plan to bring her potential fathers into her life. This is set to the colourful Abba classic ‘Honey Honey’ and even musical haters cannot resist the toe tapping urge or to sing along to the unforgettable soundtrack.

Meryl Streep plays strong minded and hard working mum to Sophie, which I believe to be her finest role in years. The film rendered all emotions from laughing along with the comic Julie Walters to emphasising with the heartbreak of Sophie as she attempts to dertermine the identity of her real father and the only man who can complete the missing part of her life.

I personally recommend this film for all ages, the perfect family film which is amusing, exhilerating and enjoyable throughout. The only bad point being the closing credits. The scenery is blistfully stunning and Mr Brosnan shines amongst the strong and powerfully talented cast. A much needed change from the normal run of the mill films which are available to buy and rent and I will be most definately pre ordering my copy so I can relive the excitement of Mamma Mia again and again.

After the release of such films as Hairspray, Across the Universe and Rent, the movie industry has not failed to let us down and we can only hope that they will continue to portray stage musicals onto dvd to bring them into the lives of the wider general public and to fascinate the later generations.
