How do you know the difference between polar and nonpolar molecules?

I make a list to study. I have a review of chemistry edge of tomorrow! I know the simple stuff like nonpolar molecules are symmetric and asymmetric molecules are polar, but what is more ways to tell if a molecule is polar or nonpolar? Much detail is appreciated. Thank you!

More generally the check polarity examines the polarity of a bond. For example, say you have CO Oxygen is more electronegative carbon so that it likes to keep some extra negative. Therefore, this link is polar and the molecule is polar. But if you have a molecule as CH4, the electronegativity difference is very small (And it balanced) so it is non-polar bonds and apolar molecule in general. But CH3Cl is polar because the C-Cl bond is polar and there is no C-Cl bond on the other side to balance it out. Thus, the molecule is polar. CH2Cl2 and CHCl3 are also polar (3-D, you will see they are not symmetrical) but CCl4 is nonpolar.
