How is mechanical energy conserved when the object is at rest?
ok, mechanical energy is either Ug, KE, or Ue. Now, how is mechanical energy conserved when an object is at rest? Lets say I have a block with a string tied to it. At the beginning, its on a table. Thus, its Ug is 0. Its not moving so KE is 0. The string is not stretched, so Ue is 0. Yet, when I pull it up, it gains mechanical energy. how is that conserved?
The guy above me explained very clearly let me explain in more simple words
When the object is at rest its KE is 0
Potential Energy is not necessarily at 0 but for simplicity lets say it’s on a ground floor where go Ug is given.
When you lift it up, at some height, KE will be equal to Ug. This energy is simply provided by your arm. and the Ug this object has at some height has been actually USED by you. In other words, you used ur energy, calories to lift it up therefore the energy is conserved. SImply moved from your body to the object though
