History of Brandy de Jerez …

viticulture in Jerez back to Roman times and the Moors who ruled over Spain from 711 to 1492 were prohibited by Islam to drink wine. Contradictorily, viticulture continued in Jerez and the distillation was introduced in the 10th century primarily for use in cosmetics, essences and antiseptics. During the 19th century, a new export market important and the Netherlands developed. It consisted mainly of the sale of raw grapes aged in old sherry casks, which later became known as "Holanda". Brandy Jerez is produced by manufacturers of sherry mainly around the town of Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. Most of Brandy de Jerez is made from wine produced from throughout Spain, mostly from grapes in La Mancha and Extremadura, since the local sherry grapes are too expensive for convert Brandy.

Today, most of the distilling process is done all over Spain using the column halted.
