Where do the myths about luck and bad luck come from?

Does anyone know the origin of the common myths about luck and bad luck? For example … why people think rabbits feet are good luck? I mean, have four rabbits and they live in a hole and usually end as food for predators. What about horseshoes, four leaf clover and lucky charms? And Why are things like salt overthrow, break a mirror or walk under a ladder bad luck?

Every culture has beliefs and rituals have little understanding as you say in your question. The root of these beliefs can be attributed to natural consequences or events that follow a behavior or action. If good things after an action, the action is seen as lucky, and vice versa so bad outcome occurs. In general, psychologists describe this behavior as superstitious, which simply means that people make incorrect links between behavior and consequences. Read some old BF Skinner (the father of behavioral psychology) and you'll have a better idea.
