What is the perfect amount of frames per second?
I’ve been curious what the perfect amount of frames per second in game is. I’ve done a few benchmarks of games, and I’ve hit as low as 13 at points for some reason. I have a 9800gtx with the latest drivers, so I find that weird.
24 f/s is not the speed that real life happens. Your eye “refreshes” a heck of a lot faster than that. 24 f/s is the standard for film because it’s the minimum rate at which frames can be interpreted by the brain as smooth motion. Rapid changes still tend to look jerky at that frame rate, though.
In effect, 24 f/s is considered a bare minimum for a games frame rate, although around 30 is more often considered the standard minimum. 40-50 is generally a good range to shoot for, and up to 60 is great. Above about 60 or 70, there stops being much of a discernable difference in smoothness, unless your really looking for it.
13 f/s would generally be thought of as quite unacceptable. 30 would really be where you want to be, at least.
