Is bear spray necessary in Sequoia National Park?

Me and my gf planing to go backpacking in Kings Canyon and Sequoia National park in June. Since bears are pretty active in the summer. We know that it’s better to carry a bear spray with us just in case. But we don’t want carry extra stuff with us either.

I have hiked all through there many times and have encountered bears only once. The making of a lot of noise was enough then to move the bear off. I did have pepper spray with me and still pack it, it’s only a few ounces and the thought that it’s there is a secure feeling. These last few years have been a lot different though not for bear but for pot farms, twice I have come across a pot farm or folks lookin to start trouble to keep me from where I wanted to go, both of those trips I was visibly packing a side arm and with a larger then they were group. I never saw anyone at the pot farm but no doubt that the second party was affiliated with the same type of folks I reported both and passed through as planned and did not stay near there. I recommend now packing stronger heat then pepper spray and going in a group.
