Here in South Florida the pet stores get them from puppy mills and I watched a show the other day that broke my heart. People go in buy a puppy and then end up with big medical bills in the 1,000′s. Because they came from these mills. Where hundreds of dogs are bred. You can get a sick one from the human society. I got two sick cats from them, with kennel cough. Parvo is common among dogs.
I bought my dog “Useless” who is now 3 yrs old over the internet. From a family in Kansas, I researched, knew what I wanted and found a woman who bred only this breed and had over the years to save money to help put her sons through college. He came with championship papers & she knew the breed well. I didn’t care about the papers, but did care about the health and temperament of my dog. She shipped him to me, and he arrived on Valentine’s Day and I couldn’t have been more excited, than if I had given birth. So thrilled, I forgot where I had parked the car and had to take a golf cart ride around the parking lot several times to find it.
This is a decision that can bring you the most joy in the world, or turn your life into hell. Just watch the show, “It’s me or the dog”. So research, read, ask around and you’ll be blessed with the right one. I did my homework. I paid $500 for the dog $220 to fly him to me and here in the stores they go for over a thousand and then they are sick. So cost has to be a factor too. Good Luck !
