My husband was left property 7 yrs ago. The state of LA is going to build a hwy on it. How long can LA keep it
Now he has been asked by a natural gas corp. to get mining rights for 2 years. This money will be put into the estate and not be allowed to be released until LA decides when and if they are going to continue the highway on the land. Is there anything we can do to get the money faster or are we stuck at the mercy of LA?
Hello Jodie. As noted above, it is called Emminent Domain, which allows a government entity to pay a “fair price” for land that is needed for public good.
Only advice on this issue would be to consult an excellent real estate attorney for local laws. One thing to remember to ask about is the mining rights. Those are below the ground. It may be possible to retain the mining rights for yourself while selling off the right of way that the state is taking away from you.
