Louis Zoo

What are some good ways to make our trip to the St. Louis Zoo as cheap or free as possible??

We are taking our 2 kids (ages 5 and 4 and one due in October :) ) to the Zoo next month. We are already staying at a hotel near there for 1 or 2 nights which is costly already. What are some great ways to save money? I need some ideas. Thanx Oh and has anyone ever stayed at the Hampton Inn in Forest Park? How do you know if you are going to get an satisfactory room stay and location if you’ve never seen it before? And honestly there’s not many pictures

The Hampton Inn is fairly new, so I think you’ll be ok. They probably have a shuttle to the zoo, too. Ask for a room on the back side, so you’re not facing the highway and getting all the noise, and insist on a non-smoking room.

The zoo is free, but the children’s zoo costs to get in. You don’t really need to go in, though. There is another indoor area with some hands on exhibits that will satisfy the kids.

The train also costs but not much. You can ride from station to station and get on/off again, and then ride to the next station, which will save some walking.

Because the zoo is free and you can go in/out as much as you want, you could leave and go get some fast food for lunch. The lakeside cafe there is horrendous and expensive.

Hmmm. Set a budget for souvenirs and stick with it — the little shops have a wide range of items, though, so it won’t be a problem. You can get sticker books or coloring books.

Bring a sweater for the penguin exhibit — it is really cold in there.

Oh, since you’re right there, you can also see the history museum for free, AND I highly recommend the science center, right next door to your hotel, which is free. You can skip the OMNIMAX since the kids are so little.

You’ll have a great time in St. Louis.
