The first posters obvouisly have not seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail movie.
Any time of day is alright since you have both a 22 and a shotgun.
Being in Texas (year round season by the way) during the summer you’re likely going to find them sitting in the shade. and if it’s really hot — there in the shade they are likely to stay. So you should be able to shoot them sitting during the day with the 22 (or shotgun). In early morning and late evening, they move a bit more as the temp cools off. So if they’re wandering around a bit, they are out of their comfort zone and are more likely to bolt sooner (shotgun time).
But you could jump them and wait for them to run under a bush or tree where you could shoot them with the 22 when they stop.
I guess I’m of the opinion that it doesn’t matter what time of day or the weapon you use. I think you stand a good chance either way. If you don’t get one, there’s always more that will cooperate..
