Zakynthos or Zante Island, What is the relationship with the loggerhead turtle
The southern Greek Ionian Islands Island Zakynthos, also known as Zante is known for currants and flowers. It was also said that the island is a place rich in history Byzantine and medieval as Homer had first mentioned. This is the home of the loggerhead turtle endangered, which is then protected by National Marine Park.
Zakynthos is the third largest and southernmost island, which is a member from the Ionian Greek islands. It has 123 kilometers of coastline and is sometimes called Zante in Greece. The island has a varied terrain that begins with the fertile plains of the south and west of mountainous coastline with steep cliffs that adds to the dramatic feeling with natural arches cut and a number of underwater caves. In northern of the island, you can find mountains covered with pine trees go out in the lush, sweet, richly planted central regions. Beaches Campground is located in the north, east and south of the island, too!
The island has a mild Mediterranean climate with a lot of rainfall, because which Zakynthos dense vegetation. It has products such as citrus, olives, grapes and almonds are all cultivated. However, the island is best known for currants, which are dried as a seedless grape from the island.
Zakynthos is also appreciated for its flowers. The mounds of flowers never fail to enchant visitors when visiting the island because it filled the warm air with perfumes floating wind.
During the Neolithic, Zakynthos has already been inhabited. However, when Stone Age sites were discovered during archaeological excavations. It has been a crossroads of many cultures and was first mentioned in Homer's time. Homer mentioned several times the island in his works like The Iliad and The Odyssey. It was too Homer informed us of the inhabitants of the island. It was said that during the time of writing of Homer, the Trojan king and his followers lived on the island around 1600 BC.
It was According to legend he was in 34 AD that the island was Christianized by one or Beatrice St Mary Magdalene.
Island has a fair share of being built and rebuilt. The pirates raided these shores during the Byzantine period. Then, the island was captured and recaptured during the Crusades, which makes the island suffer from difficulties. In 1953, an earthquake had the old structures collapsed. Yet frescoes and icons that have survived in the tragedy has been recovered, collected and are now exhibited in the Byzantine island museum.
However, this is not just the history of the human and the importance of keeping the island. Zakinthos also been the home of loggerhead turtles, which are now known to be endangered.
With his unequal triangular island is two mountains that created the huge bay of Laganas shelter. Another nearby bay is called Gerakas. The beaches found in the two bays are known to be breeding sites of the loggerhead turtle. And in June and August, it was reported that up to 1,000 female loggerheads come ashore and lay their eggs in the night. The eggs are then buried in the sand to incubate in the heat of about 55 days. The eggs will then hatch and baby turtles back Then the sea, after 20-30 years, these same baby turtles, especially women, will return to the exact beach to lay their eggs too.
It has been said that it was because of human behavior that endangered loggerhead turtles. A number of visitors have been reported take their chairs on the beach without even knowing that the eggs are incubating in the sand. Pollution has also requested one of the reasons which the population of these species has declined. That is why the Greek government decided to establish the National Marine Park of Zakynthos in the beautiful waters of Laganas Bay, to be able to protect the habitat of loggerhead turtles as they have been a long time resident of the island. Therefore, when you visit Greece, do not forget to stop and explore the beautiful island of Zakynthos.

I do not know hamsters, but I can tell you that turtles are very dirty and feel absolutely shit. I pet sat for a friend who had turtles, lizards and hermit crabs. The turtle was the worst!
