I have a lot of clothes and shoes I would like to donate. Is Goodwill better or Salvation Army better and why?
Goodwill is way better. They provide good jobs for mentally handicapped people and I’ve never seen them treat anyone badly. They have good, fair prices too for their merchandise.
Salvation Army has centers where they allow homeless men to live, but in my opinion they treat them like total pieces of crap, really run them down, treat them like animals. Then they turn around and charge $100.00 for things like used couches with stains that they got for free and should sell for about $10.00.
I worked in homeless shelters for about five years, and these are my observations. Many times I would take the shelter’s van and help one of our clients get set up in an apartment, and we’d need to get them furniture, clothing, etc. I can’t tell you how disgusted I was by Salvation Army and their tactics. We always got much better prices, and my clients were never looked down on at Goodwill.
