Magical Mystery Tour: the Album
Beatles "Magical Mystery Tour album is often forgotten when it comes to press Beatles album, but in some ways, it is among their greatest albums. Although it may be difficult to argue that this is their best album, it is reasonable to think that this is their most psychedelic album and if you're an avid psychedelic music as I am, which means a lot.
Part of the reason the album is somewhat ignored is that it really was not originally intended as an album but rather as an EP. The album version (released in the U.S. originally) included songs that had long since been released as singles like "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane". But these songs are not included on any other album, so it makes sense to give them a house on Magical Mystery Tour. And certainly, "Strawberry Fields Forever "and" Penny Lane "are among the greatest songs of the Beatles.
What I really like the album is that each song is at least a little weird. I like weird music and the Beatles made great music during this weird part of their careers. A good example is "The Fool on the Hill." What kind of song anyway? It's a ballad, I suppose, but it is not the usual "I love ballad, it is, well, a fool on a hill. And the instrumentation and arrangement is quite strange.
Perhaps it is in fact the third instrumental track "Flying" that gives most of the album is special psychedelic. This is a song clearly intended to be listened to by those in another place mentally. It's just really weird, and I love the end. It fits in strangest song by George Harrison, "Blue Jay Way."
"Blue Jay Way The Beatles were at their most experimental in studio. They seemed to cast almost all the studio tricks they had at their disposal in this song. Some say that makes a little more of the top with effects, and there may be some point on this. But it works for me. In fact, it is production which is really all about me, this is not a good song, but the folly of it makes it interesting for me.
The real centerpiece of the album is "I Am The Walrus", which is the ultimate weird Beatles songs. This is the song that most defines this album for me and it intends to easily among my songs of the Beatles favorite is a great why I think it's a great album. It includes most of studio trickery "Blue Jay Way" but in a much more controlled, and the song is about 100X better too, which helps a little.
I'm not a big fan of "Hello Goodbye" (even before the target advertisements) but the outro of the song is quite cool and it has some neat riffs in it.
"Baby You're a Rich Man" is a little known song by Beatles standards but I also think it's one of their coolest songs. This is one of the highlights of the album for me. It fantastically weird.
