How To Choose A Quality Fur Coat
Nothing says luxury like a nice rabbit fur coat or mink fur coats. Fur has been a long-running symbol of glamour and decadence in the world of fashion for centuries. In addition to its aesthetic value, fur is known to be extremely durable and insulating and has been used by humans since the age of the Neanderthals and earlier. Fur is widely-known as the first material used for clothing and bodily decoration. Many indigenous tribes in colder climates still use fur due to the availability and fur’s ability to insulate like no other material. Fur is also a crucial element in traditional Russian, Japanese and Scandinavian clothing. But “fur” is a general term. There are several sources of fur that make for different looks, feels and styles. Some common fur sources include, fox, mink, rabbit, beaver, otter, sable, seal, coyote and chinchilla. With all of these choices, it may be a little difficult to decide between mink jackets, fox fur coats, and a nice chinchilla wrap. If you are making a fur coast purchase for the first time, here is a brief guide to ease you through the buying process.
1) The first step in selecting perfect mink furs coat or fox fur coats is to establish a budget. Think about how much you want to spend and set aside those funds specifically for your big purchase. Setting aside a designated amount will keep you from being tempted to go over your budget and max out that credit card.
2) Once you have a budget in mind, you should then do some research on the type of coat you’re looking for. Some questions to ask yourself in this process are:
-Why do I want a fur coat?
-Where am I planning on wearing it?
-What style am I trying to go for?
By narrowing down your wants and needs, the selection process will seem much less overwhelming.
3) Think about colors, cuts, and length. Are you into more dramatic floor length fox fur coats, do you like the knee length mink jackets, or are the short mink fur coats just your style? This is really where your budget comes in to play.
4) Next, you should consider what type of pelt you are interested in wearing. Rabbit, fox fur coats, sable, and chinchilla are generally softer and the most sought after fashion-wise. Wolf and coyote are typically used for more rugged purposes because of their durability and ability to withstand snow. Mink fur coats tend to go either way because they’re soft and fashionable, but also slightly waterproof. If you are making a fur coat purchase to keep you warm in the winter, and fashion is really on the back-burner, look into other styles that are more rugged.
5) When you are out and about selecting the perfect pelt, don’t be intimidated by the fact that many try to pass off fakes as real fur. With practice, you’ll be able to easily tell the difference. When you’re feeling a coat, part the fur and look to see if there is a pelt underneath or fabric. Also, fake fur is generally not as soft as real fur.
Faux Fox Fur stole. Should I wear it?
I’m going to a semi-formal event, and I have a faux fur fox stole. I’m wearing all black, black pencil skirt, black V neck knit top, metallic shoe, and oversized silver gem stone jewelery. Would it be too garish to wear the stole? I’m going for an old hollywood glam look. It’s a semi-formal assembly type thing. Thanks for your input.
that is tough- the animal already gone- nobody looks at each others shoes and says; “Dang, that was once a cow”, nor will they think about the hamburger they are eating…… It is still frowned upon, people are still going to sneer, and I’m certain its beautiful… sorry, not what you wanted to hear.
