What is the most frightening animal experience you have had?
Have you ever been attacked by dogs/bears/bees/earwigs/snakes/spiders/goldfish (etc) or had to face one/two/three/several/hundreds and felt at risk?
Woking in the pet care industry, Ive had to deal with feral cats, angry housecats and unruly and downright aggressive dogs. That was the norm and usually didn’t scare me too much. Only one to reall frighten me was the 135 lbs Mastiff that was aggressive and loose in the shelter one morning as we opened up.
Worked on a farm and I can tell you the only farm animals that scared me were angry sows. Cattle, horses, sheep, goats – they never scared me. A single running angry sow – yeah, not a pretty sight and scared the heck out of me.
Also worked with wildlife rehabbers.Scariest experience was being bitten by hawks, eagles and owls. Barred owl got me once trying to get it out of a crate. Harris hawk charged at me when I went to check on him after being hit by a car the night before – guess he was feeling better. And Golden Eagle just barely got me when I was transferring her from one pen to another. Just nipped, but had I not moved faster, she’d taken a finger off. Ive worked with snakes and other reptiles too, but never really afriad of those. Little leary of Copperheads, but its good to be cautious of venomous critters.
Field courses in marine science brought me face to face with sharks, dolphins, crabs and the like.. Scariest and most precarious situation was trying to take the longline hook out of a 7 foot long hammerhead’s mouth. No one got hurt, but surely wasn’t easy trying to unhook her.
