Yes – You Can Still Find Excellent Domain Names

Putting a new site together has a lot of important aspects to it, and the domain name of choice is one of them. If you make the wrong choice, then that can really backfire on you when you start marketing it. The impact of your domain name can sometimes make or break a site especially if you are branding it. One very common mistake with many uninformed marketers is they do not understand about using, or not using, trademark names in a domain name. First of all, it’s not a nice thing to do, especially when you know that trademark belongs to a big company that’s put in years to build their brand. Back in the day people would snatch up trademarked domains and basically extort large sums of money from the owners who wanted the name. Never think some companies will have mercy on you about this matter because they usually will not. One of the reasons why Google or Yahoo! sound so good is because they are easy to remember. A name with three or maybe four words can work if they flow well. The less work you make people do, with anything online, the better response you will tend to get from them. Let’s say somebody visits your site for the first time and likes the content that is being offered – do you think they’d come back for more if they have a hard time recollecting your site’s name? Helping people to remember who you are with your URL will only be helping yourself. It does not matter if you have three words, just as long as they work well together.

You may be able to get away with a number, but something has to be exceptional about it. People have a hard time with such domain names because there’s always going to be a version of the same domain, without the hyphens and numbers. What tends to happen with people is they will just abandon the thought of visiting your site if you make it hard on them. You will never know how many visitors fail to arrive due to a domain that is a pain to remember.

Looking for and finding a terrific domain name is a lot of fun, we think, and so just go out and play with it. You can easily find probably more than one great name if you put enough time into it. If you are an old hat at this, then no worries at all as you know what to do.
