A Polar Bear Speaks

I Nanook. At least that is what the Eskimos call me. You know better than me the polar bear. I am also under the name of the ice bear or sea bear

I am famous in the world, but especially in Canada where they have even my picture on the back of their $ 2 coin. This is probably because 60 percent of my extended family of polar bears live there. The rest of them live in Alaska, Norway, Greenland and Russia.

I earn my living in the polar seas of freezing and can swim up to 60 miles an hour, but recently I had a hard time finding the ice packs I depend on to rest during those long swims. More and more of my brothers died in this way lately, hunting and finding food to feed their families.

Contrary to land you, we polar bears are marine animals. We need ice packs for hunt ringed seals, mate, raise our young and take a break on our forage for food. ring seals that you may or may not know, live also on the ice of the Arctic and constitute the bulk of our food. Not many of them as there were so hungry that we for longer periods of time. Without them, we literally starving from other foods is so much fear in the Arctic.

It is increasingly difficult these days to find ice packs. I do not know much about science, but I hear people talking about global climate change or something like that and how it is causing my home to the Arctic to decrease. I do not know this, but I can tell you that my swims are longer and I am not I was too heavy because of it.

Human beings have always tried to take the weight off, but we have polar bears need to survive freezing and cold water in which we live, so we need large areas with lots of fat. When we eat, we deliberately eat the blubber of seals to gain much weight and add insulation to our body. A bear fat is better able to survive in our cold, aquatic world.

Like you, we are mammals, but we are different in many ways and live in places that people most often avoid visiting. That may be why some people do not seem to care what happens to us. It is hard to tell us because you can not we have seen in a zoo and not our natural home where we are recognized as kings.

We will also have fewer children. My companion can only give birth once every three years and since I spend more time looking for a meal, we missed the season of love if we not have children for some time.

If you have not guessed, polar bears can not really speak. But if I could I defend myself in the governments and legislatures of the world and tell them what is happening in my homeland of the Arctic.

Bears drowning, bears are hunted for sport, children die of hunger, water pollution and animals I feed the polar bear cannibalism, bears so thin you can see the bones through their fur, forced to bear recovery in human settlements for food scraps instead of hunting on the ice packs that have been so many was once.

All these things I did not cause and can not control Add to a life that is full of misery and despair. It's almost not worth experienced that if something can be done quickly to offset the damage caused by humans and effects of global climate change.

What can we do? I do not know. I am a bear and have no rights in the courts. I do not read, I do not write and can not defend myself. I can not March in a protest or sign a petition. If I could, believe me, I would.

Since I can not do these things myself, would you me?

Will not you at least sign a petition to the authorities as the Government of Canada knows that you care about me and you want some something done about my situation as soon as possible?

If you help me, you will help many other Arctic animals since they too feeling the same effects. If nothing is done now, the man will also face the devastation that causes global climate change.

Nobody can stop climate change, but something must be done to reduce the impact and reduce the distress that results.
