Why can’t I feel the comfort of a hug from somebody?
I feel like I need a hug but the closest to feeling any real comfort is hugging my childhood stuffed polar bear. If I hug other people, I feel weird or awkward inside, rather than comfort. Why is this? I am not a little kid anymore but I wish I could have the feeling that I am loved and cared about. I just can’t seem to connect with people in that way. I feel left alone and I know my polar bear is just a stuffed animal and wish he was bigger.

there is getting a hug, giving a hug, and sharing a hug
and, hugs are innocent enough display of warm affection for someone — but, this thing of not being able to hug someone and be comfortable with that — is a sign of your having reservations in the affection that you are displaying !! This is something that you can do with your “buddy” and feel comfortable with — because between the two of you there are no reservations !!
The premise of your question, however, is a statement of a need to “feel the comfort of a hug FROM somebody” which is a call for the display of someone else’s affection for YOU !! And, there is little to say here — because there is no way of knowing why this element of acceptence is not available to you in your present situation and circumstance !! I’m sure that you MUST have people around you somewhere— that care very much for you — maybe they are just simply people who do not know how to express this very well — or, it could be that they don’t know that you are in need OF affirmation of their affection FOR you ?? I any regards — I’m sure that there are those that care very much for you — and in time you will be able to communicate to them in some way that you need the comfort of their displays of warmth and caring love for you in this manner !!
