will transport you into a land of fairy tales, love and good cheer. As Irish immigrants spread around the world, so do their traditions and culture. Celebrating St. Patrick in Ireland are perhaps, the most elaborate of all, but several countries in the world provide strong competition with costume parades and celebrations. By birth or not, everyone is Irish on this day of fun.
Green is the color of Ireland and especially in this day. For all those busy activities by the day of St. Patrick, green means abundance, renewal, growth, health and life! Clover can display This soothes the mind and restless spirits. Everyone is looking for a pot of gold leprechaun and fortunately it is not so difficult to find, at least not March 17. Perhaps what we really need is not material wealth, but the joy, laughter, dreams and love for everyone around which is as precious as gold to us. The happiness that spreads and shared with everyone, a carefree spirit of victory and the hope is real wealth. The passing of tradition and culture to future generations that this treasure is all about. This is the place of honor, pride of our cultural background.
Stories of the Blarney Stone is another example of the transmission of traditions and beliefs. One day particularly happy Saint Patrick's, ideally beginning with St. Patrick's Day poems and prayers, followed by events like St. Patrick's Day Parade and Run. Traditional activities and stories would be sprinkled all throughout the day leading to an evening of song and music. The foot tapping to the sounds of the violin and "The Chieftains. Corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, bubble and squeak "(my favorite!) And beer of course, certainly do music in the sweet sound of the air. And all this against a background of green refreshing!
A special day is just another excuse to spend some quality time with the people who matter to us, so for people who live far from friends and family, the day seems only half as good. Going green and postcard St Patrick's Day greeting cards, gifts and making phone calls is a way to stay connected, even remotely.
While gifts and cards get is a pleasure, my favorite part of the tradition is when I pinch somebody for not wearing green. This is so much fun to tease and welcome, regardless of everything else. For me, March 17th victory marks a victory of humanity over all the everyday worries and everyday problems. This is an opportunity to celebrate the ability to rejoice in spite of everything, an opportunity to rise above all challenges to spread joy and hope. St Patrick's Day is synonymous with warmth, growth and a spirit of eternal youth. Finally, I suppose in an Irish accent true, the following lines of Thomas Daly best represent the spirit which can make St. Patrick's Day 2008 fun and memorable for the whole band.
